The California Air Resources Board (CARB) Clean Truck Check was established under Senate Bill 210 in 2023 to significantly reduce smog-forming and toxic emissions from aging heavy-duty vehicles operating across the state. The program applies to nearly all diesel and alternative-fuel vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 14,000 pounds, including out-of-state fleets. To maintain compliance, vehicle owners must register their units in the CARB database (CTC-VIS), pay an annual compliance fee, and submit regular passing emissions test results—which involve On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) scans.
